Joseph Brown named Captain for '08
Offensive Lineman receives honors for Spring Football

Waterbury- Current Junior Offensive Lineman Joseph Brown was named Co-Captain for the 2008 Football Season at Holy Cross. Brown has been a two-year starter at Offensive Tackle for the Crusaders and will lead a very experienced group on the Offensive Line this fall. Brown's leadership in the weightroom during the off-season thus far, as well as his leadership in the classroom made it an easy decision for Head Coach Mike Phelan.

Academically, Joe has established himself as one of the top Students for the Class of 2009. Brown is enrolled entirely in AP Classes and has been named to the All-NVL Academic Team for the Spring Season as part of the Track & Field program. Brown's GPA is a 96.48 over his three years on Oronoke Road and he was recently inducted into the Holy Cross Chapter of the National Honor Society in May.

Athletically, Joe will help lead the Crusaders in 2008 as they open up with the Crosby Bulldogs on Friday September 12th at Jimmy Lee Stadium for a 7:00pm kickoff. Brown will lead a very experienced group on the Offensive Line that returns 4 starters from the 2007 season which finished 7-3 and missed the playoffs by one game (a 21-20 loss to Woodland in week 6).

2008 Summer Weightlifting Info

Our pre-season weightlifting schedule will begin Monday June 16th, 2008 and continue through the Summer. Our normal Weightlifting days will continue to be Monday thru Thursday with the most likely time being from 3:30pm - 5:30pm. A Complete schedule will be given out by Coach Phelan during Spring Football Practice. The Weightroom continues to be open during the Spring season under the guidance of Coach Giampetruzzi from 3:05pm - 4:30pm Monday thru Thursday.

  • A reminder that this schedule is tentative and can change from week to week. This includes days that are currently listed as OFF that can be changed to a weightlifting day.

  • Attendance for the weight room is Mandatory and if you miss days unexcused it will hurt your chances during Spring Football and more importantly it will hurt your TEAM.

"This is what I'm trying to say to you... When a man looks back on his life, he should be proud of all of it, not just the years he spent in pads and cleats" ~ Luther "Shark" Lavay from Any Given Sunday

"You know what he missed? What he missed were those other guys looking back at him in the huddle. Those 11 guys, everyone of em seeing things the same way. All of them looking downfield... together...thats what he missed." ~ Coach Tony D'Amato from Any Given Sunday

"Any man’s finest hour - his greatest fulfillment - to all that he holds dear is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle…Victorious." ~ Vince Lombardi

"I don't know, its the battle, the going to war with the other guys, hanging together, having a chance to be somebody, to do something that people look up to you for, your strength, your courage, not everybody can play football...we're the lucky ones" ~ Steve Lattimer from The Program

Offensive Lineman Joe Brown (77) has been named a Co-Captain for the 2008 Football Season at Holy Cross. Brown will lead a very experienced Offensive Line during the upcoming season.
