2008 Holy Cross Crusaders Senior Football Players
Ben Ewald ~ WR/DB ~ 5'10'' 181 ~ Ewald returns as a three-year starter on the defensive side of the ball and also as a Co-Captain for 2008. Ewald has been a big part of the Crusader Defense the past two seasons and will step into the offense more this season as a RB. Defensively, Ewald recorded 35 tackles (12 solo) in '07 from his CB position and was the team leader in interceptions (3) returning one for a touchdown. Offensively in '07 Ewald caught 20 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 13.5 yards per catch. ACADEMIC AWARDS: Ewald is enrolled in a mix of AP and Honors Courses while maintaining a 90.83 GPA. Received the Rensellaer Science Medal. Joe Brown ~ LT ~ 6'3'' 263 ~ Brown, a Co-Captain for this season, will anchor an Offensive Line that has much experience after leading the Crusaders to a 7-3 record in '07. Brown will play the Left Tackle position where he started last season. In 2007, Brown allowed only 2 sacks during the year and rushed for 855 of their 1577 yards to his side of the line. With the help of Brown, The Crusaders rushed for 15 of their 31 Offensive touchdowns in 2007. ACADEMIC AWARDS: 97.35 GPA maintaining First Honors every Marking Period; Member of the National Honors Society and recipient of the Katherine and James B. Andrew Morrone ~ OT/DE ~ 6'1'' 215 ~ Morrone received significant time in 2007 on the Defensive Side of the ball at Defensive End while recording one unassisted tackle. Andrew will also be vying for the Right Tackle position during Pre-Season Camp. ACADEMIC AWARDS: Member of the National Honor Society, The Spanish Honor Society and has a 94.00 GPA. Dom Flammia ~ WR/QB ~ 5'11'' 145 ~ Flammia will look to start at Receiver this season after having two successful Junior Varsity seasons. In 2007, Flammia recorded one catch for six yards at the Varsity level. Flammia's off-season work ethic has earned him a nod a receiver. ACADEMIC AWARDS: Member of the National Honor Society; Enrolled in Honors and AP Classes entirely and has accumulated a 89.20 GPA. Josh Diaz ~ WR/DB ~ 5'5'' 132 ~ Diaz will compete for time on the Defensive Side of the ball after being a starter for two years at the Junior Varsity level. Diaz will also compete for time on Offense as a Receiver. ACADEMIC AWARDS: Has been on the Honor Roll for 8 of 12 Marking Periods and has a 80.20 GPA enrolled in CP classes entirely. Joe Bocci ~ OL/DL ~ 6'0'' 260 ~ Bocci will compete for the Right Tackle position on Offense going into Pre-Season Camp. Defensively, Bocci recorded seven tackles in '07 from his Defensive Tackle spot. ACADEMIC: Bocci is enrolled in CP Classes and has an 81.00 GPA. Rob Pagliaro ~ DB/ WR ~ 5'11'' 160 ~ Pagliaro has been a mainstay in the defensive backfield over the past two seasons as a backup and will look to start in '08. In his two years as a starter at the Junior Varsity level, Pagliaro has led the team in Interceptions and pass deflections. ACADEMIC AWARDS: Member of the National Honor Society and has also been on the Honor Roll since his freshmen year. GPA of 86.67 while enrolled in a mix of Honors and CP courses. Mike Lasky ~ DT/OT ~ 6'1'' 255 ~ Lasky will compete for time on the Defensive and Offensive Lines going into the Pre-Season. Lasky has been a mainstay on Defense at the Junior Varsity level over the past two seasons leading the way in tackles amongst Defensive Linemen in that time. Martin DiVito ~ LB ~ 5'10'' 177 ~ DiVito will compete for one of the starting Linebacker positions. During the 2007 Season, DiVito led the JV Linebacker corps with 38 tackles and 3 Interceptions. During his role as a backup on Varsity, DiVito recorded six tackles in '07. ACADEMIC AWARDS: Member of the National Honor Society and also a member of the 2007-08 All NVL Academic Team. DiVito has a 90.33 GPA while enrolled in a mix of Honors and CP Courses. COLLEGE INTERESTS: Stonehill College, Iona College, Springfield College, Marist College, King's College
Drew Durant ~ OLB ~ 5'10'' 155 ~ Durant competes for one of the two Outside Linebacker positions in '08. After two successful seasons at the JV Level from his Linebacker position, Durant will help lead a Linebacker corps with plenty of Varsity experience. Durant recorded seven tackles (5 solo) in '07. ACADEMIC: Durant is enrolled in CP Classes entirely and has a 83.08 GPA. COLLEGE INTERESTS: University of Connecticut, Southern Connecticut State University, West Point N.Y.
Anthony Pennacchio ~ DT ~ 5'11'' 295 ~ Pennacchio will return as a starter in '08 on the Defensive Line. A mainstay on Defense in '07, where he recorded 26 tackles (13 solo) and 1.5 sacks. Mike Karas ~ DE ~ 5'11'' 170 ~ Karas will compete for time at the Defensive End position in '08 after a successful Junior Varsity season. Karas started at DE for the Crusaders JV team where he was third on the team in tackles. Karas gained valuable Varsity time in '07 although he did not record any tackles. ACADEMIC: Enrolled in CP Courses. COLLEGE INTERESTS: University of Rhode Island, King's College, Western New England College, Boston University
Jon Fusco ~ TE ~ 6'2'' 205 ~ Fusco returns as the Crusaders top Tight End for 2008. Fusco caught five passes for 132 yards last season, three being for touchdowns. Jon averaged 20.3 yards per catch with his longest reception being a 75-yard scamper against Sacred Heart. ACADEMIC: Fusco has maintained Honor Roll status throughout High School with an 85.27 GPA. Dan Lucia ~ DB ~ 5'10'' 145 ~ Lucia returns as a potential starter at one of the Defensive Back positions for 2008. Lucia had a very successful Junior Varsity season from his Safety position in '07 with four interceptions to lead the Crusader Defense. ACADEMIC: Lucia is enrolled entirely in CP Courses. Christian Cuevas ~ LB/RB ~ 5'10'' 180 ~ Cuevas returns after a solid Junior season from his Linebacker spot. Cuevas recorded 12 tackles ( 5 solo) in '07. Cuevas will also compete for some carries at Running Back. ACADEMIC: Cuevas is enrolled in a mix of CP and Honors Courses with a 83.04 GPA. C.J. Flinter ~ WR ~ 6'1'' 165 ~ Flinter will compete for a spot at Wide Receiver during the '08 campaign. Flinter had a very successful Junior Varsity season in '07 where he caught 4 touchdown passes while returning a kickoff for a touchdown against Naugatuck. Flinter is also a standout sprinter for the Crusaders Track & Field program. ACADEMIC: Enrolled entirely in CP Courses, received academic excellence in Western Civilization during his freshmen year. Richard Marano ~ OL ~ 5'9'' 215 ~ Marano will compete for a spot on the Offensive Line at Guard. Marano has had two successful Junior Varsity seasons in a row, starting at Guard. ACADEMIC: Enrolled entirely in CP Courses with an 81.33 GPA
Mike Philbin ~ DB ~ 5'10'' 150 ~ Philbin will return to compete for a spot in the Secondary on Defense. Philbin had a successful Junior Varsity season in '07 recording 15 tackles from his Safety spot. ACADEMIC: Enrolled entirely in CP Courses
